Power plants to be built in central, northern provinces
Hanoi, Jul 8 (VNA) - A hydro-electric power plant will be built in central Quang Ngai province late this year to serve the locality and its Dung Quat Economic Zone.
Tran Minh Tuan, general director of the Dakdring Hydro-Electric Power Plant Joint Stock Company, said the 125-MW plant will be built at a total cost of 3 trillion VND and its first turbine is expected to start operation by the end of 2012.
In another development, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce has recently appraised a project to build a 600-MW thermo-electric power plant in northern Quang Ninh province - home to the country's largest coal mines.
The 865.5 million USD Thang Long Thermo-Electric Power Plant is expected to consume annually over 2 million tonnes of coal to generate 3.7 billion kWh a year.
The plant's first turbine will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2011 and its second by the second quarter of the following year.-
