Vietnam and Germany share experiences in WTO implementation
Hanoi (VNA) - German charge d'affaires in Vietnam Holger Seuberg has affirmed the great significance of the timely and consistent implementation of WTO commitments to Vietnam 's further successes in its economic liberalisation.
At a sub-regional symposium on negotiations to join and implement WTO commitments in Hanoi on July 7, Seuberg said that joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has helped Vietnam become a bright light on the world's investment map and that Vietnam has made a big leap after its one-year membership in the world's biggest trade body.
The German official said that in addition to high economic growth and an influx of investment capital, Vietnam 's admission to the WTO will also bring long-term benefits to the nation and these benefits will depend on the implementation of its pledges.
He urged Vietnam to maintain its pace of institutional reform, saying that foreign businesses operating in Vietnam are not the only ones keeping a close watch on the country's implementation of its commitments, noting that the world is also watching.
President Hans Zehetmair of the Hanns Seidel Fund, who co-chaired the symposium with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Vietnamese State 's intervention measures in the implementation of WTO pledges, particularly in rural and agricultural development, will have a decisive role in the country's success during its integration process.
Although Vietnam 's economy is facing challenges, the current difficulties of Vietnam, like other developing nations, have not blurred its basic economic indexes, especially during its international economic integration, he noted.
At the symposium, more than 100 delegates, who are government officials and representatives of Cambodian, Lao and Vietnamese businesses and a number of international organisations in Hanoi , discussed the three countries' common issues in development and economic integration.
Cambodian and Vietnamese representatives shared their experiences in implementing WTO commitments and in negotiations to join the WTO with Laos , who is striving to become a member of the world's biggest trade body.
