Nam Dinh to become centre of southern Red river delta
Hanoi (VNA) - The Prime Minister has approved a master plan on socio-economic development of Nam Dinh province by 2020, turning thelocality into an economic, cultural and social centre of the Red River delta's southern region.
Nam Dinh will need 296 trillion VND (17.4 billion USD) to implement the plan, which sets the target for annual GDP growth rate at 12 percent in the 2008-2010 period and 13 percent in the 2011-2015 period.
By 2010, industry and construction are projected to make up about 39 percent of province's economy, services, 36 percent and agriculture-forestry and fisheries, 25 percent.
The locality will strive to expand industrial production by 25 percent a year in the 2006-2010 period, 17 percent in the 2011-2015, and 15 percent in the 2016-2020 period.
Shipbuilding is considered a priority, with several special industrial parks planned such as Nam Dinh, Xuan Kien, My Loc, Nghia Binh and Thinh Long.
Besides, small and medium enterprises will be developed to help rural employment.
Regarding agriculture, the province will focus on growing high quality rice, targeting a total acreage of 70,000-75,000 ha and an annual output of 900,000-950,000 tonnes.
The master plan also calls for investment in tourism to turn it into a pillar of the province's economy.
