RF, Denmark to sign modernization partnership decl Wed.

COPENHAGEN, April 28 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev of the
Russian Federation (RF) and Danish Prime Minister Lars Lekke Rasmussen
meet here on Wednesday to sign a Partnership for Modernization
Declaration, Russian presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko has told Itar-Tass.
Prikhodko said another several documents had been also prepared for
signature during the RF President's State visit to Denmark. These include
an intergovernmental Treaty on assistance in the implementation of
projects which are being carried out under Article 6 of the Kyoto Protocol
of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change; an agreement on
cooperation in efforts to combat transnational crime; a memorandum on
cooperation in the field of energy effectiveness and renewable energy
sources.
"It is planned that one of central subjects of discussion at the
Medvedev-Rasmussen talks will be mutually beneficial cooperation in the
energy sector, including interaction in implementing the Nord Stream
project," Prikhodko said. He recalled, "Denmark was the first country to
approve the construction of the maritime section of the gas trunkline
across its economic zone".
The Kremlin official is confident that "The signing of an inter-agency
memorandum on cooperation in the field of energy effectiveness and
renewable sources of energy during the visit is intended to become a solid
legal foundation for subsequent successful implementation of projects in
this respect".
He added, "The sides are also to exchange views on interaction in the
regional formats in the Arctic and in the Baltic Sea areas -- the
Barents/EuroArctic Council, the Council of the Baltic Sea States, and the
Arctic Council, the latter being currently presided over by Denmark".
Prikhodko's forecast is that during the Russo-Danish summit the sides
would have "a detailed exchange of views on conceptual aspects of
trade-and-economic relations, including the investment component (Danish
investments in the Russian economy total more than $1,000 million)".
Notwithstanding the global financial and economic downturn, the sides
managed to avoid a substantial decline in Russia-Denmark trade turnover --
in 2009 goods turnover decreased by 13.9 percent as compared with that in
2008 to run at $3,200 million.
Prikhodko mentioned such most promising areas as the introduction of
advanced technologies to ensure energy efficiency in the use of renewable
sources of energy in the medical industry and pharmaceutics, the
agri-industrial sector, and in the development of infrastructure.
The Russian presidential aide expects that "The sides will also
consider prospects for cooperation in the sphere of sea transport, the
introduction of high technologies in the modernization of the
infrastructure of Baltic seaports, and expansion of the geography of
transportation lines". He cited the opening of a direct ocean cargo
shipping line Ecuador - St Petersburg by the Maersk Line Company on
March22 as an example of joint work in the transportation sector.
"The agenda of the forthcoming talks has a number of topical
international matters, including European security problems within the
context of President Medvedev's initiative concerning a European Security
Treaty, the development of Russia-NATO relations, and climate change
management," Prikhodko said.
