FOCUS ON CREATIVITY, REINVENTION, NAJIB TELLS WORKERS
KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak
wants workers to make creativity and reinvention as their focus this year in an
effort to enhance productivity and transform the country's economy.
By incorporating innovation into all chains of production, he said, the
country would be able to enhance its wealth and competitiveness "so that we can
also stand on par with countries like Japan, the United States and Finland."
In his Workers' Day message, the prime minister said although there were
many ways to achieve success, "obtaining, nurturing and retaining talent is one
of them."
"We should also invest in the industry of the future," he added.
"Whatever the methods may be, I encourage you to make creativity and
reinvention your focus for this year. Let us be brave in making a difference for
a better result."
Najib, who recently visited Japan, also expressed admiration to the
creativity of the Japanese people.
"Japan's technology in the field of environment and renewable energy is
impressive," he said.
The prime minister also spoke of the visit by Finnish Prime Minister Matti
Vanhanen to Malaysia Wednesday and said that it brought to attention Finland's
success in innovation, among them the achievement of Nokia, a popular
brand in the country.
Najib said last year, he stressed on the extraordinary achievements of
Malaysian workers in the field of socioeconomy.
"But I believe that we should continue to intensify our effort if we want to
realise the vision of making Malaysia a high-income country," he said.
A high-income economy, the prime minister said, was crucial as it would pave
the way for a better standard of living, more job opportunities and a wider
social safety net.
