Iran ratifies directive on oversight of officials’ assets

TEHRAN, May 1 (MNA) -- The Iranian cabinet has ratified a directive which tasks a special committee with assessing the assets of senior government managers, their spouses, and their children.

The secretariat of the committee will be comprised of the economy, justice, and intelligence ministers, three legal experts, the first vice president, and a number of other vice presidents, according to the administration’s website.

The secretariat will be responsible for analyzing and cataloging all the information gathered.

The directive will affect officials at the general director level, senior staff of ministries, governmental institutions, and state companies, provincial governors, mayors, and some other officials.

The officials will be required to provide the committee a list of their properties and total income every year in the Iranian calendar month of Ordibesht (April 21-May 21).

They will also be obliged to inform the committee about all alterations in their income levels and all acquisitions, sales, gifts, or donations of property, and to explain how they added to their assets.

In addition, the directive requires the officials to answer all questions about their assets, and if it is proven that any assets were obtained illegally, the committee is empowered to make a decision on the matter.
