UAE Pavilion at Shanghai Expo attracts 15,000 visitors on first day
Shanghai - May 2, 2010 (WAM)- Over 15,000 visitors of different nationalities and ages have enjoyed an unforgettable experience of the UAE breathtaking model of development during their visit to the UAE Pavilion on the first day of the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.
Visitors will pass through a series of audio visual ‘experiences' culminating in a ‘Dream Journey' that presents a stunning immersive imaginative journey over and through some of the highlights of the country.
Among the top dignitaries that visited the pavilion were the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry, Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah and the Minister of Information and Culture Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.
While praising the Pavilion, visitors said they were impressed with informative documentaries which narrate the development model of the UAE. They added that multimedia materials had managed to provide deep insights about various walks of life in the UAE.
Occupying an area of 6000 square metres in the heart of the Expo site, the spectacular UAE pavilion, designed by world-famous architectural team, Foster + Partners, will showcase the prosperity, harmony, culture and innovativeness of the UAE to the world.
Being held under the theme ‘Better City, Better Life', Expo 2010 is expected to attract 70 million visitors over a six-month period, from 1 May to 31 October 2010, the largest World Expo ever which attracts 242 countries.
Situated on largest plot size (6000 square metres) available to Expo participants, The Dunes, as the building has become known, has a footprint of 3452 square metres and encloses a total of approximately 3900 square metres of exhibition space, information areas, and other facilities.
The UAE pavilion will provide an immersive environment that will unfold the country's unique personality, engage the visitor in a dialogue exploring the inherent tensions of city-living in the twenty-first century, and relate the UAE inspiring story to the world using the latest technology. Pearls, with all their immense natural beauty and deep cultural significance for the Emirates, provide the link between the different sections of the exhibition.
Through the Dream Journey, visitors will be experiencing the diversity, beauty and vibrancy of contemporary UAE, its dramatic urban centres, its cultural heritage and aspirations, courtesy and hospitality, as well as its connections to the wider world.
The UAE Expo project will also include a wide range of special artistic and cultural exhibitions, academic seminars and events that will explore the UAE's role at the crossroads between east and west and the discourse between heritage, modernisation and globalisation, at the same time reflecting the cultural and artistic reality of the UAE as a ‘living place and space'.
The overall installation is a celebration of the UAE's success in creating improved cities for its people. Emirati initiatives such as Abu Dhabi Plan 2030, the zero carbon city, Masdar and its associated sustainable energy initiatives are all examples of how closely the UAE is aligned with the Expo theme of 'Better City Better Life'. Not only will the UAE pavilion provide fascinating insights into these urban development but it will also provide a stunning and exciting experience for visitors who will gain unique insights to both the country and its people.
