$77 MLN PROGRAMS TO ENHANCE FOOD SECURITY IN YEMEN



SANA'A, May 02 (Saba) - Yemen and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) discussed here on Sunday cooperation relations in the area of food security, particularly during the extraordinary events of the strife rebel war and the natural disasters.

This came during the meeting of Prime Minister Ali Mujawar and the WFP's Resident Representative Gian Carlo Cirri, in which the two sides dealt with the common strategy through which a range of developmental programs would be implemented to increase the food production and enhance the food security , which are estimated to cost about USD 77 million.

The premier expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the efforts made by the WFP and all its employees to support Yemen in the area of food security and to meet the challenges of food shortages.

He pointed to the negative impacts of climate change on agricultural production and the reduction of the size of the agricultural area duet o the drought which affected many parts of Yemen over the last period , explaining the government policies and programs to address the problem of lack of food and to reduce its impact on the population.

For his part, the WFP's representative affirmed the programme's keenness to boost cooperation with the government to face the challenges of the food security, noting that the strategy to be carried out would contribute significantly to reduce this problem and serve the foods security of the population.
