EU SUPPORT FOR YEMEN ANTI-SEA PIRACY EFFORTS DISCUSSED
SANA'A, May 02 (Saba)- The Minister of Transport Kalid al-Wazir discussed on Sunday with a European Union delegation, led by Michel Irue, possibilities of the EU to support efforts of Yemen exerted to combat sea piracy.
In the meeting, the minister reviewed the efforts Yemen has done during the past period to fight marine piracy resulting in the signing of the Code of Conduct of Djibouti as well as establishing a regional center for combating piracy, noting the importance of providing equipment which the EU showed willingness to help in.
He pointed out the importance of supporting coastguards and Yemeni marine forces to enable them to carry out their missions under cooperation with the international community in order to combat sea piracy.
For his part, the EU official affirmed the necessity of coordinating efforts to curb the sea piracy phenomenon, noting that the EU will work to help Yemen in this regard in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
