KEEPING THE '1MALAYSIA' SPIRIT ALIVE IN JORDAN
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysian students in Jordan keep the
'1Malaysia' spirit alive far away from home when they participated in a two-day
sports carnival starting Saturday aimed at strengthening their ties.
Malaysian Students Department (MSD) Cultural Counsellor in Jordan, Sulaiman
Ismail said it was the third year running for the event which was also to
promote healthy lifestyle among them.
"The programme consists of track and field events as well as sports like
football, volleyball, netball, badminton and table tennis," he said in a
statement.
More than 500 students participated in the event.
Sulaiman represented Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan Abdul Malek Abdul
Aziz at the launch, held in Mafraq on Saturday.
It was attended by the Governor of Mafraq, Ali Nazzal and President of the
University of Al al-Bayt, Dr Nabil Shawaqfeh.
The previous events were held at Irbid and last year in Mu’tah.
There are 1,150 Malaysian students pursuing their studies in Jordan mostly
in Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, Medicine and Dentistry, at various levels
of studies from Bachelor degree to PhD.
