DISPLACED PEOPLE CAMPS NEED FAST, LARGE HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT, UN OFFICIAL



SANA'A May 03 (Saba) – The Assistant Director-General of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Regional Director of Arab States Bureau, Amat Al-Alim Al-Soswa, left Sana'a on Sunday after a several-day visit to Yemen.

Speaking to Saba, the UN official said that the relief organization working in the camps for displaced people due to the rebellion war in Saada province would find it difficult to continue to provide services if they do not get a large and fast humanitarian support.

She pointed out that she discussed this matter during here meeting with the political leadership, which directed the government to hold intensive meetings with the traditional donors and the neighboring countries to speed up in enhancing the relief services.

Moreover, Al-Soswa indicated that she reviewed with officials in the government the current relations with the UNDP and the UN organizations working in Yemen as well as the signing of agreements relating to support the local authority and promote the social and economic role of women in some provinces, particularly the provinces of Hadramout and Mahrah, as a part of intensive follow-up to address the flood disaster caused to these areas during 2008.

During her visit to the camps for displaced people due to the insurgency war in Saada, Al-Soswa met with the UN missions and got acquainted with their relief activities.
