JOURNEY TOWARDS LOW CARBON ECONOMY MUST BEGIN NOW
KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (Bernama) -- The journey towards a low carbon economy
must begin now, even as companies and organisations, work towards
developing and implementing sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR)
programmes.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui
said environmental issues and climate change, must always be a part of CSR,
besides generous financial contributions.
"I am certain that we will be able to forge a more profound, effective and
sustainable approach to both CSR and its sister discipline of, socially
responsible investments (SRI).
"It is imperative that we do so, because without sustainability built into
it, CSR will not fulfill its aim to harmonise profits, people and planet," he
said in a speech delivered by Deputy Minister Noriah Kasnon at the opening
of the World CSR/Social Responsible Investment Conference and Workshop 2010
here Tuesday.
Chin said CSR has been gaining momentum in the Malaysian business and
corporate world.
"Many companies, particularly those that are public listed, have been
practising CSR for quite some time now in their business operations," he added.
