Yemen calls for promoting tourism sector

SANA'A, July 10 (Saba)- A official meeting held Wednesday in Tourism Ministry affirmed the importance of continuing promotional touristcampaigns and marketing of Yemen which started in 2007.

The meeting attended by Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, Tourism Minister Nabil al-Faqih and the head of Yemeni tourism agencies union Yahya Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, pointed out also the need of linking the society with the benefits of tourism, supportingartisans and popular markets and marketing handicraft products.

They called for holding a meeting with correspondents and journalists for discussing means of activating the role of media in the tourism sector of the country and contributing to improvingtourist services and tourism products nationally.

The meeting reviewed the warnings issued by some European countries regarding some of security events taken place in Yemen as well assecurity mechanisms to deal with foreign visitors.

"For the interest of Yemen, the promotional campaigns of the tourism sector must continue abroad through the participation in international shows and there is no a justification for suchwarnings", al-Qirbi said.

Al-Qirbi affirmed the importance of the media role in the awareness-raising aspect of tourism in Yemen and dealing with national issues for attracting more tourists and avoiding attitudes that are turning off foreign tourists, urging journalists working for political parties' newspapers to stay away from negativereflections on investment and economy of Yemen.

"We do not deny there are security problems, but there are exaggerations, so we must build a secure Yemen and make tourist programs for foreign ambassadors in Sana'a to all provinces of thecountry", added al-Qirbi.
