China welcomes India-Pak Prime Minister's meet on SAARC

Beijing, May 4 (PTI) China on Tuesday welcomed the
recent meeting of Indian and Pakistan Prime Ministers on the
sidelines of recent SAARC summit in Bhutan, saying that
improvement of relations between the two countries is good for
the sub-continent and peace and stability of Asia.
"Both India and Pakistan are neighbours of China and
countries of major influence in South Asia.
The improvement and development of relations between
these two countries will not only be good for South Asia but
also for peace, stability and development of whole Asia,"
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Jiang Yu told a media
briefing here on Tuesday.
She was answering a question on the meeting of Prime
Minister, Manmohan Singh and his Pakistan counterpart Sayed
Yousuf Raza Gilani on the sidelines SAARC summit.
"China is glad to see that during the SAARC Summit
the two leaders held a meeting and displayed their positive
willingness to improve the bilateral situation.
China welcomes and supports the two countries to
enter into dialogue and cooperation to resolve their disputes
and achieve common development," she said.
Asked to comment on the political situation in Nepal
with reference to the agitation being conducted by Maoists
demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal
to quit, she expressed hope that political parties could
properly handle differences and seek a political consensus for
the peace in the nation.
As a friendly neighbour "we sincerely hope the
Nepalese political forces will take the national interest into
consideration, hold dialogue, coordinate, and seek a political
consensus," she said.
Jiang called on the parties to properly handle
differences, promote the hard-won peace process and realise
political stability and economic development at an early date.
"It is what is in Nepal's fundamental interest, and
what is good for regional peace and stability," Jiang said
adding that the Chinese Government adheres to the principal of
non interference in the internal affairs of any country.
