Russian diplomats take part in commemoration ceremony in Changchun.
HARBIN, May 5 (Itar-Tass) -- A ceremony to commemorate WWII heroes -
Soviet pilots from the Baikal region, has been held in the Chinese city of
Changchun in the northeast of China on Wednesday. It was devoted to the
coming celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the victory in World War II.
Russian ambassador to China Sergei Razov laid a wreath to a monument
to the Soviet pilots on behalf of the Russian Federation. Taking part in
the ceremony were Russian students who study in Changchun, Chinese
scholars who study Russian, and representatives of public communities.
"Russia is satisfied with a respectful attitude of the Chinese
authorities to the graves of Soviet liberator-soldiers," Razov told
Itar-Tass, adding, "This is part of China's own history. The two countries
have an understanding reached at a high level of the WWII causes and its
course. They have no reason to call the black white or vice versa. In this
sense the two countries have full mutual understanding."
Similar events timed to coincide with the celebrations of the 65th
anniversary of victory in WWII have been held in different cities in the
provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning. Apart from flower laying
ceremonies, victory ceremonies to award Victory medals to Chinese veterans
have been held there.
