In his petition, Lakhvi has contended that Kasab's
statement cannot be used in a Pakistani court.
The spokesman said, "We have given dossiers to India
seeking some information and some documents. Those are still
awaited."
In response to another question regarding Pakistan's
request for formal access to Kasab to facilitate the trial of
seven Pakistani suspects, including Lakhvi, Basit clarified
that the government had "never sought the extradition of
Kasab".
"It was the court's decision and the government
proceeded in accordance with that," he said, referring to
arrest warrants issued recently for Kasab and Fahim Ansari, an
Indian national, by an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, ruling Pakistan People's Party leader
Sherry Rehman said the death sentence should not be carried
out in the interest of improving Indo-Pak relations. PTI RHL
