MASKARGO HOPES TO RESUME FREIGHT SERVICES TO US IN JULY

SEPANG, May 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (Maskargo) hopes
to resume its freight services to the United States in early July this year,
managing director Shahari Sulaiman said Friday.

The last time that the company operated flights to the US was in 2001.

"Possible locations that Maskargo is looking at are Chicago, Dallas, New
York and Los Angeles," Shahari told reporters after the signing of a multi-year,
multi-aircraft lease agreement between Maskargo and US air cargo carrier
Southern Air Inc here.

He said under the agreement, Southern Air would initially provide three
Boeing 747 freighter aircraft along with crew, maintenance and insurance.

"Maskargo also has an option to lease up to five aircraft, which will
provide additional flexibility to meet its customers' growing demand for
additional lift capacity and to develop the ability to service new markets," he
added.

The contract period is from May 2010 to the end of next year.

Shahari said it was anticipated that "we will be requiring a fourth aircraft
by July with an option to increase to five units if there is commercial
justification to do so".
