DON`T FORGET YOUR ROOTS, AVOID DISPUTE OVER ROYAL INSTITUTION, MALAYS TOLD
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Bernama) -- Malays should be aware of their roots and
always refer to the Malaysian Constitution to prevent disputes over the palace
and royal institution, said Information Communication and Culture Minister
Dr Rais Yatim.
"This is because most Malays have forgotten their roots. They should be
aware of that and hold on to history," he told reporters after presenting
certificates of appreciation to contributors for the Coffin Exhibition at the
National Museum, here Saturday.
The minister was commenting on the current situation where most people were
becoming more daring to question the instruction of the Sultan and the Ruler, as
well as the conflict of the monarchy.
He said law enforcement authorities should take immediate action against
those who try to violate and degrade the institution of Monarchy.
"What is important now is how we can guarantee Article 181, 153, 152 and
other articles (in the Constitution) related to the power of the monarch,
including Article 38 and 43 where the King is the supreme
monarchy in the country.
"There should be a law that will enable immediate action to be taken if the
institution were to be degraded," he said.
Rais said the palace should also show an exemplary image to prevent the
people from being disappointed by the their administration in the royal
institution.
"If the institution was in a mess, the people will lose faith, and this is
what we have to take a good care of," he added.
