WORLD’S BIGGEST EATER CHESTNUT BEATS KOBAYASHI IN WONTON EATING CONTEST

SINGAPORE, May 10 (Bernama) -– World’s biggest eater Joey Chestnut added
another feather to his cap when he beat world No. 2 Takeru Kobayashi in a
shrimp wonton eating competition here Sunday.
Chestnut, 25, a construction engineer from the United States, managed to eat
15 pieces of shrimp wonton more than his closest rival after gobbling up 385
wontons in eight minutes.
Kobayashi, 32, was able to tuck in only 370 wontons in the CP Biggest Eater
Competition 2010 organised by CP Foods, Thailand’s leading agro-industrial and
foods conglomerate.
In the female category, world No. 2, China-born 44-year-old businesswoman
and mother of two daughters, Juliet Lee won hands down after shoveling in 160
pieces of shrimp wonton, also in eight minutes.
In the local men category, the winner was Ng Chin Sheng who ate 115 wontons,
while Koh Yeow Thien topped the local women category with 70 wontons.
Chestnut, who began his professional eater career from 2005 and has
defeated
the Japanese-born Kobayashi in 2007 and 2008, holds the world record of eating
103 hamburgers in only eight minutes.
Kobayashi, 32, set his first record in 2001 where he ate 50 hot dogs in 12
minutes, winning the Hot Dog Eating Contest and constantly broke his own record
for six years in a row.
A total of 31 Singaporean finalists, including five women, took part in the
eating contest held at the Bishan’s Junction 8 shopping mall, which attracted
hundreds of afternoon shoppers.
