YEMEN, UNDP DISCUSS PROCEDURES FOR ACINET ACCESS



SANA'A, May 10 (Saba)- Chairman of the Supreme Authority for Monitoring Tenders (SAMT) Abdul-Malik al-Arashi held Monday talks with UNDP Legal Adviser Arkan El-Seblani on procedures for SMAT's accession to the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network (ACINET).

The talks dealt with areas of cooperation between Yemen and UNDP to promote standards of integrity in the field of tenders and auctions, in particular, and SAMT's support to promote transparency in government procurement and bidding procedures, particularly in vital sectors.

During the meeting, al-Arashi pointed out what has been achieved during last year through as well as the preparation of the terms of references and the strategy of SMAT.

He affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between SMAT and UNDP to complete the institutional capacity building and structures of SMAT.

For his part, UNDP Legal Adviser expressed readiness of his organization to support SMAT in providing experts and consultants and expand areas of cooperation with the SMAT to be able to complete the institutional structure.

ACINET is based in Beirut and is meant to promote communication between policy makers and building their capacity at the regional level and strengthen the partnership among governments, civil society organizations, UNDP and the League of Arab States to boost integrity, combat corruption and activate development efforts in the Arab region.
