More cement factory built in Oudomsay

VIENTIANE,11 MAY (KPL) - Two Chinese companies have made a joint investment to construct a cement plant with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tonnes in Nathong village, Namor district, Oudomsay province.
A ground breaking ceremony of the cement plant was held on 9 May.
The two companies invested US$16.3 million in the construction of the plant, expected to be completed this year.
Oudomsay province is characterised as base of industrial development for northern provinces.
The construction of the cement factory is to supply construction materials to northern provinces where market demand is growing highly. To meet the high demand, the provinces have to import construction materials from Vientiane Capital and overseas.
The Secretary of the Lao Cement Producers’ Group, Mr. Inpone Phattanalack said that, “this year the cement consumption nationwide is estimated at 1.5 or 2 million tonnes per year.
In the future, the volume of cement consumption might move upward, following the growth of the socio-economic development, Mr. Inpone added.
Now there are six cement factories with a total production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes in Laos.
One more cement factory with an annual production capacity of 230,000 tonnes in southern Saravane province will be put into operation at the end of this year.
