LIFELINE4GAZA NEEDS FUNDS FOR SECOND CONVOY TO GAZA

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Lifeline4Gaza (LL4G), an international convoy to send basic daily necessities to the citizens of Gaza, is in need of funds, among others, to purchase ships to ferry the basic needs.

A statement issued here Tuesday by Haluan Palestine for LL4G said the second
convoy to Gaza, which is expected to sail from Istanbul, Turkey, on May 23, was
short of 11 ships.

"Thus far, we have been able to acquire nine ships, six of which are
passenger craft and three, cargo vessels, and this includes a ship that was
presented to the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedom and Humanitarian Relief
(IHH) by the Algerian people yesterday," it said.

The second convoy, organised and led by IHH, an non-governmental
organisation (NGO) originating from Turkey supported by an alliance of NGOs from
over 52 countries, is a follow-up to the first convoy of last January.

For Malaysia, the coalition of local NGOs has thus far managed to raise RM1
million of the RM10 million (US$1=RM3.19) target, despite carrying out various
fund-raising activities in the past one and a half months, it said.

Thus, it urged "all concerned and sensitised communities on the suffering of
Gazans to continually do their part to raise the funds".

"The lives of children, mothers, the weak and old, hence the entire
population of Gaza, are being constricted by the embargo by the Zionist regime
of Israel," it said.

The group also called upon the patron of the Gaza Humanitarian Fund, Datin
Seri Rosmah Mansor, to support their effort to raise funds for the Gazans.

It said that they had prepared several proposal papers for the
reconstruction of vital infrastructure such as hospitals, medical aid and
educational support to be brought to Gaza.

They were confident that this was the best opportunity to deliver the
donations to assist the Gazans.

From Malaysia, 11 people, comprising seven leaders from non-governmental
organisations (NGOs) and four media personnel, will be joining the international
convoy led by Noorazman Mohd Shamsuddin, the chairman of HALUAN Palestine, who
will be leaving for Istanbul on May 17 before sailing to Gaza on May 23.

The public can donate to LL4G via Tabung Palestin HALUAN at MAYBANK to the
account number 5644 9020 8528.
