MALAYSIA, GERMANY HOLD TALKS TO BOOST COOPERATION
KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (Bernama) -- Senior officials from Malaysia and Germany
today held bilateral consultations as both sides looked at ways to enhance
cooperation.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said in a statement the Malaysian
side was led by Foreign Ministry secretary-general Rastam Mohd Isa while German
side was helmed by the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office, Peter
Ammon.
Issues discussed during the talks included assessing the current state of
bilateral relations and exchanging views on a number of regional and
international issues of mutual concern, it said.
It said both sides took note of the importance of trade and economic
relations, investment, education, tourism, and research and development.
Wisma Putra said it was agreed that the two sides should work together on
broadening the existing scope of cooperation in the areas of environment
technology, green technology and training.
Germany is one the largest trading partners of Malaysia among the European
Union countries. Bilateral trade last year totalled RM33.25 billion
(US$1=RM3.19). Malaysia's
exports to Germany amounted to RM14.83 billion while imports were higher, at
