SAHAM UTAMA TO PRODUCE DIESEL MADE FROM PLASTIC WASTE
KANGAR (Malaysia), May 13 (Bernama) -- Saham Utama Sdn Bhd will soon turn
plastic waste materials into high-grade green technology diesel called "Syngas",
when its RM1 million plant begins commercial production mid-2011.
Executive Director Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said Syngas would be exported,
among others, to Australia and Sri Lanka.
"We developed the technology mid-last year with the support of the Science,
Technology and Innovation Ministry," he told reporters after the launch of
Syngas by Perlis Chief Minister Dr Md Isa Sabu.
Shamsul Bahar said the plant, the company's pioneer project, would process
two metric tonnes of plastic waste material, daily, which can produce 15,000
litres of diesel.
The plant would be built on a 10 hectare site in Bintong which would
subsequently house the RM10 million (US$3.12 million) Perlis Green Technology
Centre.
On pricing, he said the diesel produced at the plant would be more expensive
than ordinary diesel.
"Saham Utama is not only a manufacturer and marketer of green technology
diesel but we also supply plant processing equipment to several parties in the
country.
Shamsul Bahar said the company was also considering processing other forms
of solid domestic waste, including organic and liquids, into diesel.
Earlier, Dr Md Isa Sabu commended the
company's effort in creating an attractive technology which can turn waste
material into high-grade diesel.
He hoped the company would develop the technology further and indirectly
contribute towards overcoming environmental pollution.
