Over three million Lao labourers employed
(KPL) More than three million Lao workers find employment in the Lao labour market, which includes 151,906 business units and projects countrywide.
The supply capacity of labour force to all labour units countrywide is adequate, according to a recent week’s report of the Director of the Labour Skill Development and Job Recruitment Department.
Of more than 3.69 million of Lao workers, about two million or 78.5 per cent, are working with business units, and 700,000 people or 21.5 per cent are working with non-business units.
However, about 40,000 people (1.3 per cent) out of the above figure are classified as unemployed.
In the next five years (2015), the number of Lao workers will increase to 4.1 million. Almost 3,000 agricultural units and 15,068 industrial units will provide employment to about 11 per cent of the total figure.
During the period, over 60,000 commercial units will employ about 41.2 per cent and over 70,000 service units will employ about 46.9 per cent of labour.
