UNICEF condemns Houthi's occupation of schools in Saada
SANA'A, May 13 (Saba) -
UNICEF voiced on Thursday its concerns about al-Houthi's occupation of some schools
in Saada
and depriving children from education.
The GPC-run almotamar website said according to a press release from UNICEF, that
the organization is deeply concerned about reports that schools in the northern
governorate
of Saada were occupied by armed Houthi men, and that children are denied their right
to education.
Using Schools for military or inappropriate political purposes is a violation of
children's rights and of international humanitarian law. Children must be allowed
to resume
their schooling immediately.
UNICEF has called upon all parties throughout the country to ensure the right to
quality education for every child, saying that depriving children from this right
is detrimental
to their well-being and to their country's future.
The UNICEF concerns, after a teacher has been shot dead by a Houthi loyalist in a
school at al-Zahir district in Jawf governorate due to refusing applying al-Houthis
activities
in the school.
April 13, al-Houthis have attacked al-Whida school in Mijz district, Saada. The
attack resulted in killing the school guard and on pro-Houthi.
Earlier, al-Houthi loyalists have stormed some governmental buildings, schools and
hospitals, and looted its equipments and turning the building into strongholds.
That makes
the national committee overseeing the implementation of the six-term ceasefire deal
to suspend its works in protest against al-Houthis's violations to the ceasefire
deal.
