Ukraine plans to develop active cooperation with Arab world.
KIEV, May 15 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine is planning to begin active
cooperation with the Arab world.
"Ukraine's foreign policy is not confined to the Moscow-Brussels-
Washington triangle," Oleg Voloshin, the director of the information
policy department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, told a briefing on
Friday.
He noted that Ukraine was interested in implementing several
investment projects in Arab countries.
"We have traditional friendly ties, we are not divided by any
political differences and we don't have issues that would cause mutual
annoyance. The potential that exists in relations between Ukraine and the
Arab world should be used in full measure. And we are planning to step up
work in this field soon," Voloshin emphasized.
The Ukrainian diplomat said that President Viktor Yanukovich and other
senior officials were planning to pay several visits to Arab countries in
the near future.
. Kazakhstan set to expand ties with regional organizations in Asia.
ALMATY, May 15 (Itar-Tass) - Kazakhstan will expand its dialogue with
regional organizations in Asia during its presidency over the Organization
for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
"Kazakhstan plans to pay increased attention to work with Asian
partners in the OSCE and exert efforts to expand the OSCE dialogue with
regional organizations in Asia," Kazakhstan's President Nursultan
Nazarbayev said in his address to participants in a trans-Asian
parliamentary forum titled "The Eurasian Measure of OSCE".
In his address President Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan regarded its
OSCE chairmanship to be the world community's recognition of Kazakhstan's
contribution to strengthening regional and global security.
"Kazakhstan's experience in voluntary and transparent liquidation of
it nuclear missile potential will be useful for the OSCE while our model
of inter-ethnic and inter-religious accord is Kazakhstan's real
contribution to ensuring humanitarian measurement of the OSCE activity,"
the Kazakh president said on Friday.
Nazarbayev believes that the global nature of risks and security
challenges in the 21st century dictates to the world community the need to
unite efforts and look for answers to a wide range of threats in the
sphere of global and regional security.
"Problems of stable economic development, poverty, refugees,
unemployment, labour migration, terrorism, drug trade and other threats
form a very serious list of challenges to mankind. The struggle against
them calls for maximum efforts from each state and on the part of
influential organizations like the OSCE," President Nazarbayev emphasized.
The participants in the Almaty forum include OSCE Secretary General
Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly
Joao Soares, Secretary-General of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Spencer
Oliver, Miroslav Jenca, the head of the United Nations Regional Centre for
Preventive Diplomacy, and diplomats from 35 countries.
.Air traffic to be established between Prague and Baku.
BAKU, May 15 (Itar-Tass) - The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and the
Czech Republic, Elmar Mamedyarov and Jan Kohout, on Friday signed an
agreement on the establishment of air traffic between Prague and Baku.
"The opening of an air link will make it possible to increase tourist
flows in both directions and establish contacts between the two countries
in culture, art and other spheres," the Czech foreign minister told a news
conference on Friday.
Kohout said that the Czech Republic regarded Azerbaijan as one of its
strategic partners.
"This has been confirmed by the recent opening of the Czech embassy in
Azerbaijan despite the economic hardships which our country is facing,"
the Czech diplomat went on to say. He believes that the event completed a
certain stage in relations between the two countries that had been
preceded by intensive political contacts at various levels, including the
highest level.
The Czech foreign minister stressed the importance of economic
cooperation with Azerbaijan, especially in fuel and energy.
"Oil deliveries from Azerbaijan meet 25 percent of our demand in oil.
It can even be said that every fourth car in the Czech Republic runs on
petrol made of Azeri oil," Kohout went on to say.
The Czech minister also said that his country was interested in
cooperation with Azerbaijan in other spheres such as construction and
modernization of Azeri industry and infrastructure.
"During negotiations in Baku my colleague and I agreed in the opinion
that the sides could successfully interact in areas like science and
education and participate in joint research," the Czech foreign minister
went on to say.
For his part, Azerbaijan's foreign minister said that other topics for
discussion included the European Union's Eastern Partnership program, the
expansion of the legal basis for mutual relations between Azerbaijan and
the Czech Republic as well as Days of Culture of the Czech Republic in
Azerbaijan and Days of Azerbaijan in the Czech Republic.
