Squid catching season in Arab Sea opened
SANA'A, May 16 (Saba) - Ministry of
Fisheries announced on Sunday opening the season of fishing Squid in the regional
waters in the
Arab Sea ,after it has been closed since last October.
A press release issued by the ministry, Saba has got a copy of, said that this kind
of fish is available in plenty in this period of the year in the Arab Sea area as a
result
of the proliferation process taken place during the closure period.
Yemen's exports of squid during 2009 amounted to 23,871 tons at a value of more
than USD 47.7 million, as the squid scored 24 per cent of the total exports and 21
percent
of the total value of fish exports.
The squid is a source for creating the value-added after the actions taken by the
Ministry of Fisheries over the past years to encourage the traditional fishing and
prevent
foreign fishing vessels from fishing within the area of traditional fishing.
