MALAYSIANS URGED TO DEFER TRAVEL TO BANGKOK
KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysians are advised to defer travel plans to Bangkok due to the escalating violence in the Thai capital, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said.
Travel to other parts of Thailand, however, was safe, he said in a
statement.
So far, Malaysians in Bangkok were reported safe and the Malaysian embassy
there would remain open, he added.
"As neighbours with close bilateral relations, Malaysian hopes that Thailand
will be able to resolve the political problems through peaceful means," Anifah
said.
Malaysians in Bangkok are urged to avoid hot spots occupied by the Red Shirt
protestors particularly the Ratchaprasong intersection, Lumpini Park, Silom Road
and its surrounding areas.
Anifah also advised them to be vigilant and monitor the latest news from the
media.
They are also urged to register with the Malaysian Embassy at 35, South
Sathorn Rd, Tungmahamek, Sathorn, Bangkok 10120 or call +662 629 6800 or email
to malbangkok@kln.gov.my.
The operations room at the embassy opens daily from 4pm to 10pm on weekdays
and from 10am to 10pm on weekends.
