MALAYSIA HAS NO RESTRICTION ON INTERNET USE, SAYS MINISTER
By Vincent Low
SHANGHAI, May 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has no restriction on the use of the
Internet, except if their contents violate provisions in the Communications and
Multimedia Act 1998, said Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais
Yatim.
"Anyone who violates the provisions of the Act will not escape the law," he
told Bernama after the presentation of the World Telecommunication Information
Society Award 2010 at the Shanghai World Expo, here, Monday.
He said among the offences that could be taken against Internet users were
online gambling, pornography, promoting terrorism, cheating and other cyber
offences.
On wireless access initiatives in the Klang Valley, Rais said it was
spearheaded by Telekom Malaysia and supported by the Malaysian Communications
and Multimedia Commission.
He said the Internet speed in the Klang Valley, which included Kuala
Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Klang, had reached 10 mbps.
