ESCWA's 26th round kicks off in Beirut with Yemen participation

BEIRUT, May 19 (Saba)- Activities of the 26th round of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) began on Wednesday in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, with the participation of Yemen represented by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affaires,
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi.

In the opening session, attended by the Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Beri,
al-Arhabi pointed out in his Yemen speech to the importance of issues listed in the
round's
agenda, topped by opportunities and challenges facing youth as well as building
capacities of the ESCWA member states' institutions.
It is worth to mention that Yemen presided over the previous ministerial round for
2008-2009 which was hosted in Yemen in May 2008. Jordan is currently presiding over
the
present round of the ESCWA for the period 2010-2011.
