That Luang shopping mall construction kicks off

VIENTIANE,19 MAY (KPL) - The construction of new That Luang Shopping Mall and a modern market kicked off yesterday in That Luang village, Saysettha district, Vientiane Capital.
A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction was held on 19 May, with the attendance of Mr Somvandy Nathavong, Vice-Mayor of Vientiane Capital, and Mr. Bouasone Heuangpaseuth, concessionaire of the That Luang Shopping Mall and Modern Market Construction Project.
Mr. Bouasone said the project proposal was put forward to authorities concerned for study in 2005 and approved this year with a 40-year concession.
The construction of That Luang Shopping Mall is a joint investment of 58.8 billion kip by three local companies of the Heuangpaseuth Construction Company holding 60 per cent of share and the International Transportation Limited sharing 20 percent and the Alice Computer Company sharing 20 percent, said Mr. Bouasone.
The four-storey That Luang Shopping Mall building with more than 600 rooms will be built on 7,612 square metres of the old That Luang market that has been burnt down recently.
The construction work is expected to be over and the mall will be put into service in 2012.
The That Luang Shopping Mall will be built by two local contractors-the Saya Irrigation Construction Company and Daosavanh Construction Company, at a total cost of 57.3 billion kip.
