Emirates A380 will return to New York from October
Dubai, May 20, 2010 (WAM)- Emirates' A380 superjumbo will make a much-anticipated return to New York on 31st October, the airline has announced. The aircraft's reinstatement on one of Emirates' double daily JFK routes comes as the carrier reported a significant increase in revenue for the Americas in 2009-10, representing a year-on-year rise of 8.1 percent.
Growth in the Americas helped steer the airline to a net profit of AED 3.5 billion (US$ 964 million), while 27.5 million passengers flew with Emirates over the last financial year, over 20 percent more than in 2008- 09.
Emirates' expansion plans for the region will be boosted by a significant increase in capacity. The airline is scheduled to receive 11 new wide-body aircraft in 2010, including Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s.
Emirates currently operates eight A380 aircraft, serving London Heathrow, Toronto, Paris, Jeddah, Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney and Auckland. In March 2010, the airline also announced the start of A380 services to Beijing from 1st August and Manchester from September.
The much-praised superjumbos offer an Onboard Lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers, with a wide range of drinks and canapé s, as well as the space to socialise or simply relax. Emirates was the first carrier to order the A380 and has ordered more than any other airline - representing 30 per cent of the total superjumbo orders. Eight have now been handed over with a further 50 to come.
Emirates currently has a fleet of eight A380s and seven more are due for delivery in 2010.
Despite its size, the luxurious Emirates' A380 is among the most environmentally considerate aircraft ever built and offers better fuel economy per passenger mile than most hybrid passenger cars. Its Engine Alliance GP7200 engines are noticeably quiet - great news for passengers and a welcomed development for residents below.
The 489-seat aircraft offers 14 flat-bed First Class Private Suites with electrically operated doors, 76 fully-flat seats in Business Class - all with mini bars and aisle access, and 399 comfortable contoured seats in Economy - spread across four roomy cabins on the lower deck.
A personal satellite phone is fitted to each seat on the A380 aircraft, which also carries a seat-back sms and email service, along with seat to seat calling and a "My USB" personal picture viewing facility. Emirates has announced six new routes for 2010. They are Tokyo (launched 28th March), Amsterdam (launched 1st May) Prague (1st July), Baghdad (1st July), Madrid (1st August) and Dakar (1st September). – Emirates News Agency, WAM
