YEMEN UNIFICATION PROCESSES THROUGH HISTORY
SANA'A, May 21 (Saba)- The Yemeni people are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Yemeni Unification on May 22 which comes within great developmental achievements and strategic gains.
The unification processes went through various steps and stages crowned by big national work represented by the reunification of Yemen and the announcement of the Republic of Yemen on May 22, 1990. These processes are outlined as follows:
- October 28, 1972: signing the Cairo Deal between the two presidents of north and south Yemen.
- November 28, 1972: the two presidents signed unity Tripoli Statement.
- December 21, 1972: representatives of the two presidents of north and south Yemen, Algerian President, Libyan President, Arab League Secretary General held the first meeting in Sana'a over setting an action plan.
- April 15, 1973: the committee for representatives of the two presidents of north and south Yemen, Algerian President, Libyan President, Arab League Secretary General held their second meeting in Aden over implementations of the firth meeting recommendations.
- September 04, 1973: presidents of the two parts of Yemen met in Algeria asserting the importance of accelerating committees' work.
- November 10, 1973: heads of the presidential councils in the two parts of Yemen met in Hudeidah and Taiz to find out common forms for the national economy of the unified Yemen.
- November 20, 1973: committee of the personal representatives of the two presidents to implement agreements of the unity held its 3rd meeting in Cairo.
- March 14, 1974: committee of the personal representatives of the two presidents to implement agreements of the unity held its 4th meeting in Sana'a.
- February 15, 1977: Ibrahim Mohammed Al-Hamdi, chairman of the leadership council, and Salim Ali, chairman of the Presidential Council, held a meeting in Ibb.
- August 15, 1977: Salim Ali paid a visit to Sana'a.
- March 28, 1979: presidents of the two parts of Yemen Ali Abdullah Saleh and Abdul-Fatah Ismail held a summit in Kuwait attended by Kuwaiti Emir.
- October 02, 1979: a summit between president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his southern counterpart Ali Nasir Mohammed was held in Sana'a.
- May 03, 1980: a meeting was held between Ali Nasir Mohammed and Premier Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Ghani in Aden.
- June 10, 1980: interior ministers of the two Yemens convened in Sana'a.
- June 12, 1980: the two parts of Yemen signed a partnership agreement in fields of tourism and sea and land transportation.
- June 13, 1980: President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his southern counterpart Ali Nasir Mohammed agreed in their meeting in Sana'a to strengthen security and stability in the two parts.
- June 13, 1980: the two parts agreed to jointly coordinate in areas of information, culture and education.
- September 01, 1980: President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his southern counterpart Ali Nasir Mohammed held in Taiz city a meeting.
- September 26, 1980: Secretary General of the Central Committee for the Yemen Socialist Party Ali Nasir Mohammed visit Sana'a to participate in the 26th anniversary of the Revolution of the north.
- September 15, 1981: the two presidents, Saleh and Nassir, agreed in Taiz to impalement Article No. 9 of Tripoli Statement.
- November 23, 1981: the 2nd summit between Saleh and Nassir was held in Kuwait under the sponsorship of Kuwait Emir Sheikh Jabir Al-Sabah.
- November 30, 1981: president Ali Abdullah Saleh paid a visit to Aden and agreed with his southern counterpart, Nassir, to form a Presidential Council.
- November 30, 1981: the joint constitutional committee between the two parts announced the accomplishment of the unity country constitution.
- January 23, 1982: the two parts of Yemen agreed in Sana'a on the joint investment project for natural resources.
- May 06, 1982: the two presidents of Yemen, Saleh and Nassir, agreed to go beyond the instability situation between the two parts.
- November 09, 1982: the Yemeni Supreme Council met in Sana'a.
- November 29, 1982: the 1st round of the joint ministerial committee between the two parts of Yemen was held in Aden.
- August 05, 1983: the 4th round of the Yemeni Supreme Council took place in Sana'a.
- August 15, 1983: Sana'a hosted activities of the 1st round of the Yemeni Supreme Council.
- September 07, 1983: Yemeni Supreme Council Secretariat held its 5th meeting in Sana'a.
- February 05, 1984: Secretariat of Yemeni Supreme Council held its 6th meeting in Aden.
- February 15, 1984: the Yemeni Supreme Council approved a number of recommendations presented by the secretariat.
- March 01, 1984: Secretariat of the Yemeni Supreme Council held activities of the 7th round of the Council.
- July 16, 1984: Secretariat of the Yemeni Supreme Council held its 8th round in Sana'a.
- August 06, 1984: the Joint Ministerial Committee held its 3rd round in Aden city.
- November 12, 1984: meetings of the 7th round of the Secretariat of the Yemeni Supreme Council held in Sana'a.
- December 04, 1984: the Yemeni Supreme Council held its 3rd round in Sana'a.
- January 19, 1985: the two presidents, Saleh and Nassir, met in Aden.
- March 05, 1985: the two presidents, Saleh and Nassir, met in Sana'a.
- April 24, 1985: the 10th round of the Secretariat of the Yemeni Supreme Council was held in Aden.
- August 19, 1985: Secretariat of the Yemeni Supreme Council held its 11th meeting in Sana'a.
- December 10, 1985: the joint Ministerial Committee approved freedom of citizens movement between the two parts of Yemen.
- December 24, 1985: the 4th round of the Yemeni Supreme Council was held in Sana'a.
- July 02, 1986: a three-side meeting by President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Haidar Abu Bakr al-Attas, chairman of the Presidential Body of the People Council in south Yeme, and Libyan Leader Moamar al-Qadhafi was held in Tripoli.
- July 21, 1987: President Ali Salem al-Beidh of south Yemen visited Sana'a over unity discussion.
- April 17, 1988: the two presidents, Saleh and al-Beidh, met in Taiz city.
- May 04, 1988: the two presidents, Saleh and al-Beidh, met in Sana'a.
- May 04, 1988: interior ministers of the two parts of Yemen agreed on what was signed by the two parts legateships.
- February 28, 1989: Secretariat of the Yemeni Supreme Council held its 1st round for this year in Aden city.
- March 22, 1989: the joint Ministerial Committee held its 1st round for this year in Sana'a.
- October 31, 1989: Committee of the Unified Political Organization held its first meeting in Taiz city.
- November 29, 1989: President Ali Abdullah Saleh arrived in Aden to take part in celebrations of the 22nd anniversary of Independence.
- November 30, 1989: Aden Agreement to re-unify the country was signed.
- December 24, 1989: a press statement over the meeting of the leaderships of the two parts of the country was issued which included regulation of their meetings.
- January 08, 1990: Committee of the Unified Political Organization held its 2nd meeting in Aden city.
- January 20, 1990: the first meeting of the cabinets of the two parts was held.
- February 18, 1990: the two parts presidents, Saleh and al-Beidh, held in Abyan a meeting over unity process.
- March 01, 1990: a joint meeting was held by Prime Ministers of the parts.
- March 08, 1990: leadership of the Yemeni land held, for three days, a series of meetings chaired by Saleh and al-Beidh in Taiz and Aden.
- March 20, 1990: cabinets of the two parts held their 2nd meeting in Aden city.
- April 22, 1990: the signing of Sana'a Accord to announce the Republic of Yemen under unity.
- May 01, 1990: presidents of the two parts discussed in Aden a number of issues related to unity work and the announcement of the unity.
- May 01, 1990: the two presidents, Saleh and al-Beidh, held a bilateral meeting in the unity capital Sana'a.
- May 03, 1990: Committee of the Unified Political Organization held its last meeting in Taiz city.
