Pranab, Deora welcome peace between Mukesh and Anil

Baharampur(WB)/Chennai, May 24 (PTI) Two Indian Cabinet
ministers Pranab Mukherjee and Murli Deora Monday welcomed
Ambani brothers Mukesh and Anil burying their differences,
saying the truce is a "good sign" and would do a lot of good
to the business world.
"I saw it in the newspapers today... The agreement to
end the long-standing dispute between the two brothers was
needed. It will have a good effect on other corporate houses
who will profit by it," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told
PTI in Baharampur, in eastern state of West Bengal, where he
is campaigning for the civic polls scheduled this weekend.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Petroleum Minister
Murli Deora said, "I must tell you that there are other
serious problems in the country and the fight of these two
brothers does not really matter. I would take it in this way
that it is a good sign and we welcome it."
Deora asserted that the government had no role in the
Ambani brothers' dispute.
"The government has no role in that. In this case,
history has said and the government has said that the gas
belongs to the people of India. We are grateful to the Supreme
Court and it has clearly said that the gas belongs to the
people of India."
On Sunday, the two Ambani groups decided to end their
long-standing dispute and scrap all existing non-compete
agreements executed in January 2006, besides expeditiously
negotiating gas supply agreement in accordance with the
Supreme Court order of May 7.
The Supreme Court too had asked the two brothers to come
to an agreement within the framework of government policies
during the hearing into the gas dispute, Mukherjee noted. PTI
