AGRICULTURAL VICE MINISTER MEETS WOAH DIRECTOR-GENERAL


Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Vice Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia J.Saule met May 23 with Dr. Bernard Vallat, a Director-General of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and others in Paris, France.
At the meeting, J.Saule spoke about Mongolian government's policy and measures to protect livestock health and combat livestock infectious diseases. She requested the WOAH to have seven Mongolian provinces announce a foot-and-mouth disease free status and to receive assistance and support in strengthening veterinary sector and improving skills of vets.
Receiving this requests, the WOAH side said it is ready to cooperate with Mongolia in main directions such as improving livestock health, supporting goals to combat with livestock diseases, improving qualities of vet service and diagnosis, gaining the livestock disease-free status and in promoting professional skills of vets.
The WOAH said that it has decided to send vets on slobbery to Mongolia in order to make it a model country who possess the livestock disease free status in Asia-Pacific region. The WOAH also decided to send to Mongolia its investment appraisal team for veterinary service within August of 2010.
Dr. Vallat said the WOAH will help Mongolia in taking part in programs together with the WOAH labs and in involving Mongolian representatives in trainings that are run by the WOAH.

A delegation headed by Mrs. Saule is taking part in the 78th General Session of the WOAH being held May 23-28 in Paris.
Mrs. Saule gave a speech at the session on implementing in Mongolia a flexible policy on animal husbandry and on importance of intensifying the cooperation with the WOAH in combating trans-boundary livestock infectious diseases.
