Lao Airlines adds more flights on Savannakhet-Siem Reap route

VIENTIANE,25 MAY (KPL) - The Lao Airlines has put more round-trip flights on the Savannakhet-Siem Reap route after finding out the increased number of tourists, according to the Head of the Lao Airlines in Savannakhet province, Mr Phoumin Vanavong last week.
He said that the flight between Savannakhet in central Laos and Siem Reap in Cambodia Savannakhet had increased due to an obviously increased number of passengers.
Early this month, the Lao Airlines had announced to scrap the Vientiane-Savannakhet-Siem Reap flight as a consequence of the decrease in number of passengers because of the volcanic ash in Europe and the political unrest in the neighbouring country.
The Savannakhet-Siem Reap flight by the Lao Airlines commenced last week since the number of passengers in Savannakhet province y has increased, Mr Phoumin said.
He continued that the opening of the additional flights on Savannakhet-Siem Reap route and the linking flights between Savannakhet and other provinces was to respond to the increased number of passengers.
Savannakhet province has so far had only three flights a day but now we have four flights a day, he said.
The four daily flights by the Savannakhet airport include Vientiane-Savannakhet-Vientiane, Luang Prabang-Savannakhet-Luang Prabang, Savannakhet-Bangkok-Savannakhet and the latest additional one Savannakhet-Siem Reap-Savannakhet. “Between January and April this year, the Lao Airlines branch in Savannakhet province served 314 flights,” he said. Of these, 38 percents are of domestic flights and the rest are of international flights.
He added that the Savannakhet Airport served more than 2579 passengers on departure flights, 550 of whom were Lao citizens, over the past months. At the same time, Savannakhet Airport welcomed 5,410 arrival passengers, 437 of whom were Lao passengers.
