Completion of 2nd phase of Talat Sao Mall by 2009
(KPL) Owner of Talat Sao Mall, a Singaporean national decided to go ahead to complete the construction of the 2nd phase of the Talat Sao Mall.
The 1st phase was completed in 2007.
The ground breaking ceremony of the second phase of Talat Sao Mall Construction Project was held at the site, yesterday. Two distinguished guests, Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, Mayor of Vientiane Capital and Mr Bounthavy Sisouphanthong, Vice Minister of Planning and Investment attended this ceremony. The other guests were representatives of the state andcorporations.
The sum of US$40 million will be spent to erect an eight-storey building, which will include a sub-basement. The proposed building will have a shopping complex, fast food outlets, restaurants, a supermarket, department stores and an entertainment area for a cinema and a karaoke lounge . It will also have apartments and function halls. A training school and a hotel willalso be within this complex.
Dr Lawrence Leow, Chairman & CEO of Crescendas Group said that the 2nd phase project is part of his company's efforts to carry out such a form ofexpansion after the completion of the first phase.
He said that his company is planning to invest US$ 70 million for the 3 phases: twelve million US dollars were spent on the first phase, US40 million will be spent for the second phase and US$18 million for the thirdphase.
The Talat Sao Mall, the first modern shopping center in Laos was built in the spirit of mutual cooperation between the Lao government and someSingapore businessmen.
The expansion will increase the total built-up area of the Talat Sao Mall by almost four times to approximately 100,000 square meters. It will make downtown Vientiane more exciting and vibrant. The 1st phase of Talat Sao Mall has 23,000 square meters and the second phase will have 65,000 squaremeters.
Mr Tan Meng Liang, President of Talat Sao Shopping Mall Co. Ltd said, " Phase one development of Talat Sao Mall has been very well received by the people of Vientiane. Based on the feedback that we received from business owners and retailers, we believe that the demand for shopping space will continue to be very strong. To meet this demand, we decided to proceed with the development of phase 2." He added " I believe that the expansion of Talat Sao Mall will draw even bigger crowds to the area and it will add a new and exciting dimension to this city's centre." He reckoned that the 2nd Phase Talat Sao Construction Project would becompleted in 2009.
