Sana'a-Marib power cable to resume transmission soon
SANA'A, May 26 (Saba) - Minister of Electricity and Energy Awadh al-Socotri has expected the Marib gas-fired power station to resume operations today after it was attacked by tribesmen in the last days.
Power would be transmitted to the capital Sana'a if the security conditions are
suitable for
engineering teams after Sana'a-Marib power line was shot by the tribesmen in the
northwestern province of Marib retaliating for the accidental death of Secretary
General
of the provincial Local Council in an al-Qaeda misdirected airstrike, he said. The
incident led to a complete halt of electrical power transmission from the station
into
the national power grid, he said. The station was attacked three times in the last
three days and 12 times since it was launched last year. Many attacks were tackled
without
difficulties, the minister said. Major damages were caused during the attacks
including power loss estimated at 35 per cent, the minister noted, adding that a sum
of $ 50000
is now needed to repair damages. FR
