PUTRAJAYA, May 26 (Bernama) -- Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas arrived here Wednesday for a three-day working visit which is expected to enhance relations between the two countries.
Abbas arrived at the KL International Airport (KLIA) by special aircraft
from Vietnam at 6.15pm.
This is his second official visit to Malaysia, after his first in 2007.
Abbas was joined on the visit by several ministers, including
Palentine Minister of Wakaf and Religious Affairs Mahmoud S.A Alhabash and
senior government officials.
On hand to welcome him at the airport were Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and
Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as acting Foreign Minister,
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom, who is
minister-in-attendance, and Palestine ambassador extraordinary and
plenipotentiary to Malaysia Abdelaziz Aboughosh.
High on Abbas's agenda is a meeting with Prime Minister Najib Razak at the
latter's office here Thursday.
A Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) statement Tuesday said the meeting would
provide an opportunity for both leaders to discuss issues of bilateral and
international issues, especially the latest developments in Palestine.
The two leaders will then have a joint news conference before departing for
Seri Perdana (the prime minister's residence) for lunch to be hosted by the
prime minister and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.
The Palestinian leader is also scheduled to have an audience with King
Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at the Istana Negara (National Palace).
He leaves for Indonesia on Friday.
