SIEMENS EYEING BRUNEI`S WATER SECTOR

BRUNEI, May 27 (Bernama) -- Siemens, the electrical engineering and
electronic company is looking to penetrate the water sector of Brunei with
demand anticipated to rise in tandem with the country's third wave development
which will kick off soon.

Its Chief Executive Officer for Asean Cluster, Lothar Herrmann said
Siemens had solutions for all areas in the water sector and that it was well
equipped with water technology solutions to cater to the increasing needs in the
country.

"We have products and solutions customised for various applications which
will cater to Brunei's demand.

"The country is in the midst of planning its third wave development and we
feel it's the right time to heighten our presence in Brunei in the existing
industries we have set foot so far and we expect by tapping the water industry,
it would contribute in strengthening our position here," he said at the Siemens
Brunei Customer Gathering here Thursday.

Among Siemens solutions are drinking water treatment, sewage treatment,
industrial process water treatment, industrial wastewater treatment, water reuse
and recycle treatment and residuals management.

Currently, the energy sector is the main contributor to Siemens business
locally, followed by healthcare and industry sectors.

Herrmann also said the company would be leveraging further its business in
the oil and gas industry as opportunities were booming.

"We are expecting to secure few immediate projects as part of our expansion
phase in Brunei such as the upgrading of the Brunei International Airport," he
said.

Under its business development, Siemens is also spearheading efforts to
introduce green technology into local businesses in Brunei.

"This is part of our commitment to reduce carbon footprint emissions in the
Asean region," he added.

The gathering meanwhile drew some 200 customers, government officials,
entrepreneurs and business owners at a platform which focused on establishing a
two-way communication between Siemens and its stakeholders.

Herrmann said Siemens was keen to get the smaller emerging economies
now into its family.

Meanwhile, Acting Chairman of Brunei Economic Development Board, Timothy Ong
said most projects the country will be undertaking had technology dimensions,
requiring various solutions.

"In my view, most solutions required in Brunei's development are in Siemens
portfolio although there are many leading players in the industry that offer
specified expertise in technologies.

"It's difficult not to mention Siemens, when you talk about technologies,"
he said after officiating the gathering.

Adding further, he said Brunei's preference has always been to do business
with world-class companies due to reliability and Siemens was one good example
of a company that had presence in the country for sometime.

He also said Brunei was hoping more business gatherings will be convened
regularly in the country.
