MAINTAIN FUNDAMENTAL STRENGTH OF ISLAM TO AVOID MISHAP - PM

PEKAN (Malaysia), May 29 (Bernama) -- Muslims in the country must hold
strongly to the fundamental strength of Islam to avoid the misfortune faced by
fellow Muslims in some other countries said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun
Razak.

Islam as an impeccable religion that not only demands dignity and
self-reliance, it preaches various aspects to ensure Islam continues to achieve
excellence in its true form.

"The fate faced by the Palestine people is a good example to show that if we
are not strong, our fate will be determined by others," said Najib when speaking
at a Young Imams Programme held at the Al-Taqwa Mosque in Pekan here Friday
night.

Pekan is the royal town of the Malaysian east coast state of Pahang Darul
Makmur.

Najib said the fate of Muslims in Palestine must be an example to reflect
the importance of being strong to maintain the strong ideals of Islam, the
country and its people.

"The third holiest mosque, the Al Aqsar Mosque is now controlled by the
Jews. Only the old are allowed to pray there. So, we must realise that without
holding strongly to the fundamental values of the religion, our fate will be
decided by others," he said.

Organised by Youth Clubs in Pekan and the Taqwa Foundation, the programme
saw 131 young imams taking part.
