SUDANESE NATIONAL DROWNS AT KANCHING WATERFALL
KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- A Sudanese man who made a dive from a
height of five metres at the Kanching waterfall near here drowned after getting
into difficulties Friday.
A police spokesman said in the 3.30pm incident, the victim Ahmid Muhamed El-
Hassan, 23, had been on an outing at the popular picnicking spot with his
brother-in-law and some friends when he took the fatal dive.
"At the time of the incident, his brother-in-law and the friends were
checking out the greenery at the spot when they suddenly heard screams for help
coming from the waterfall.
"They immediately rushed to the scene but the victim had been swept under by
then," the spokesman told Bernama.
With help of members of the public, they managed to retrieve the victim
before rushing him to the Selayang Hospital where he was pronounced dead on
arrival, he said, adding that the group had arrived in Malaysia for a holiday
two months ago.
The Kanching Falls are located between Kuala Lumpur and Rawang in Selangor,
Malaysia. The waterfalls consist of seven tiers. A well-maintained recreation
park gives access to the lower falls, to reach the upper falls some scrambling
uphill is required. It is one of the popular tourist destinations of Kuala
Lumpur.
