CANADA TO HOST WCIT2012 AND MEXICO FOR 2014
From Siti Hawa Othman
AMSTERDAM (THE NETHERLANDS), May 29 (Bernama) –- Canada will host the 18th
World Congress On Information Technology (WCIT), in 2012.
The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) which
organises the event, expects 3,000 delegates and 50,000 visitors, exhibitors and
media to attend the Congress in Montreal from May 21-24.
WITSA Chairman Dan E Khoo said participants would witness the future
of ICT in the making under the theme,"The New ICT-Driven Society".
At a press conference conference held on Thursday here, the last day of the
three-day 17th WCIT2010, he also announced that Mexico would host the 19th WCIT
2014 in Guadalajara, Jalisco from May 26-29.
The city is the country's "high-tech" capital and regional ICT hub.
Mexico has offered the theme,"ICT Innovations for a Creative World", to
reflect the critical role played by ICT-based innovations.
Meanwhile, the WCIT2010 ended with the "Declaration of Amsterdam", to
endorse the vision of a sustainable prosperous society, where ICT empowers each
person to improve their quality of life.
To realise this vision, the declaration laid out a number of global
challenges to be addressed, such as effectively regenerating economic growth and
stimulating sustainable economic development.
Also highlighted was the need to substantially improve energy efficiency,
decrease energy consumption and reduce production of greenhouse gases.
