PRESIDENT RECEIVES UNDER-SECRETARY OF U.S DEPARTMENT
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj received Friday Mrs. Judith A. McHale, the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.
Beginning the meeting, the President underlined an intensive widening of the Mongolia-USA cooperation, and pointed out that Mongolia wants to expand its relations and cooperation with the US Administration on the basis of the bilateral comprehensive partnership's principles. Mr. Elbegdorj emphasized that the democracy and the economic relations of free market have become the values shared by the two countries' people. He noted that Mongolia needs assistance from the USA for strengthening its market economy system and improving its capacity.
The State Head underlined that for the Mongolian youth it has been important to gain high education in order to develop the country, and expressed a willingness to increase a number of the Mongolian students to study in the USA. He satisfied with an agreement of the sides to found a joint fund for scholarships by expanding the US Fulbright Program, he said.
In response, Mrs. McHale said she will work for providing the Mongolian youths with opportunities to study in the USA. "According to a survey, 95 per cent of foreign students are studying in our 150 universities and colleges, so the Mongolian students also have a big opportunity to study in trhe U.S. schools," she said.
The dignitaries agreed to cooperate in seeking possibilities of giving scholarships to low-income students and in increasing number of scholarships for bachelor's degree students.
