PAKISTAN, MALAYSIA VOW TO BOOST DEFENCE TIES
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The visit by a high-level Malaysian
defence delegation to Islamabad, Pakistan last week resulted in new commitments
being agreed upon by both countries, said the High Commission of Pakistan, here.
The delegation, which was led by Defence Ministry Secretary-General Abu
Bakar Abdullah, to meet Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq
Parvez Kayani as well as Secretary of Defence Lt Gen (rtd) Syed Athar Ali
separately, reviewed defence related bilateral cooperation between the two
countries.
"Both countries have reiterated the commitment to further enhance and
reinforce bilateral defence cooperation.
"It was also emphasised that the defence ties should be enhanced and new
avenues should be explored, as there was a vast scope for cooperation in the
area of defence," it said in a statement here Monday.
The meeting agreed to increase interaction between the Armed Forces of the
two countries and enhance cooperation in the area of military training, it
added.
