YEMENI PEACE ACTIVISTS WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO JORDAN, AL-QIRBI SAYS
SANA'A, June 01 (Saba)- Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi said on
Tuesday that three Yemeni peace activists detained by the government
of the Zionist entity will be transferred to Jordan in preparation
for their return to Yemen.
Speaking to Saba, al-Qirbi added that Yemen called on a number of
friendly and brotherly countries, including Jordan, to help
release the Yemeni detainees from Israeli prisons.
Yemeni members of the Parliament Mohammed al-Hazmi, Haza'a al-Masori
and Abdul-Khalek Bin Shaihoun were aboard the pro-Palestinian
activist flotilla that was carrying aid supplies for the
Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip.
The Foreign Minister expressed the Yemeni government's appreciation
to the cooperation of Jordanian King Abdullah II who ordered
Jordanian authorities to secure the release of the Yemeni MPs and
transfer and treat them in Jordanian hospitals.
The three Yemeni MPs were attacked by the Israeli forces as they
were on board the fleet of freedom 'flotilla' going to the Gaza
strip.
The parliament condemned the Israeli assault, calling on the Yemeni
government to secure the release of al-Hazmi, al-Masori and Shaihoun.
Israeli naval commandos stormed the flotilla of ships carrying aid
and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists to the blockaded the Gaza
Strip on Monday, killing at least 15 and wounding dozens activists
in a predawn raid that set off worldwide condemnation.
Turkey announced it was withdrawing its ambassador to Israel,
canceling three joint military drills and calling on the U.N.
Security Council to convene in an emergency session about Israel.
The ships were being towed to the Israeli port of Ashdod, and
wounded were evacuated by helicopter to Israeli hospitals.
