Cabinet approves further funding for rural roads project
SANA'A, June 01 (Saba) -
The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday a financing agreement of additional
funding
for the second phase of the rural roads project, signed with the International
Development Association (IDA) on March 10,2010.
Under this agreement, the IDA provides a grant for the rural roads project, an
amount equivalent to 25.2 million SDRs units.
The project aims to enable the selected groups of rural poor people to access to
markets and social and administrative services as well as to develop strategies and
programs
to improve efficiency in the major areas of the transport sector.
The project consists of two parts, the first is to improve more than 400 kilometers
of rural roads and over 10 km of rural sub-roads by using modern standards as well
as
to review designs of the roads by the Ministry of Public Works.
The second part of the project is focusing on the institutional support and
capacity-building for the roads project and the Ministry of Public Works and Roads.
