IRW holds senior staff meetings in Yemen
SANA'A, June 02 (Saba)- Islamic Relief
Worldwide (IRW) is holding a series of meetings in Sana'a for two weeks.
In a press release, the IRW said that the 24 May-06 June meetings aim to bring
together its senior staff members from across the Middle East and Eastern Europe,
representatives
of its worldwide partners and its global board of trustees.
''They shall review issues relevant to the region while further mapping out the
organization's regional and global strategic directions for the coming five
years'', the
IRW said.
''The global strategic aspects being discussed in Sana'a build upon a similar
series of meetings held in March 2010 in Mali and will directly feed into an
upcoming program
in Asia''.
"Yemen was a natural choice to host this event due to our growth and diversity of
programming and our continuing commitment to the people of Yemen", Jamal Al-Din
Belke,
IRW Head of Region noted.
Islamic Relief Yemen is currently running programmes which offer support to orphans
and their families, strengthen Yemeni civil society and help to resolve conflict.
In addition to managing two camps for over 17,000 displaced people, Islamic Relief
Yemen (IRY) has continued improving access to water and healthcare in rural areas
over
recent years.
"Islamic Relief enjoys good relations with the Yemeni government, who have been
very supportive of our projects. Our coordination has led to more effective
programmes that
we hope will help in thestruggle against poverty", Khalid Al Mulad, Islamic Relief
Yemen (IRY) Country Director said.
Islamic Relief has been working in Yemen since 1998 and in Saada governorate since
2005. IRY is the main implementing partner to UN World Food Programme in the
governorates
of Saada, Hajja and Amran.
It is currently coordinating Al-Mazrak 1 camp for displaced people and has recently
completed the construction of Al Mazrak 3 in Haradh, Hajjah Governorates.
