Yemen loses $ 350 mln yearly due to piracy acts
SANA'A, June 02 (Saba)- Deputy Minister of Fisheries Wealth Abdullah BaSunbol said on Wednesday that Yemen loses between 300 to 350 million dollar yearly because of Somali piracy attacks on the Yemeni fishermen in Arab Sea, Gulf Aden and Red Sea.
In his remarks to 26sep.net that, BaSunbol the ministry received a number of
reports from Yemeni fishermen who complain from looting acts by Somali pirates and
other pirates
of Indian, Pakistani, Ukrainian and other nationalities.
Such acts threaten income sources for around 40,000 Yemeni fishermen, he added.
Moreover, the deputy minister made it clear that the ministry registered 70 attacks
against Yemeni fishermen by Eritrean side during previous period. He said that a
ministerial
committee was formed to bring an end for such attacks.
